DRS Environmental's formulas dramatically alter the composting process reducing both time and manpower needed. Supernatant from digested waste is placed on a porous material such as wood chips. Saturation of wood chips continues for 18 to 21 days. The compost pile reaches correct temperature and is ready for application within a month's period of time.
In one composting operation fish and wood waste were combined to produce an essentially odor free organic soil substrate. The method took approximately 21 days. Treated fish waste was pumped directly into prepared piles of wood waste. The fish waste/wood waste mixture was then covered with tarps during the compost process, where temperatures of 55 degrees C were reached within 18 days.
